A Colombian artist is using iPhones and iPads to create his paintings and display them in galleries, on the internet and in the streets of Bogotá.
Claudio Arango has worked all his life making logos and image campaigns for well known national brands such as Juan Valdez Coffee and Avianca Airlines.
But new technologies have further encouraged him to explore his creative talents.
‘A long time ago I realized that I did not have the patience that conventional artists are endowed with’ he writes in his blog. ‘But one day I had an iPhone in my hands and it was as if a miracle had occurred, I now use these devices to make images all the time.’
IPhones and IPads enable users to draw images and distort photos using their fingers and Arango is making the most out of these new technologies.
‘I want my work to be artistic, to be mobile, to be re-mixed and to be free’ he writes ‘it is mobile because it´s inside a cell phone or an iPad, it´s re-mixed because I am generating new images from already existing images and its free because I can upload it on the web, where everyone can find it and appreciate it at no cost.’
Arango is currently displaying a series of paintings of women’s bodies which ‘seek to capture and express the soul within women.’
His paintings are displayed on Facebook, Twitter and Flickr.
Arango recently placed his works on several iPads and showed them to people walking by Bogotá´s Zona T restaurant district. A video of his most recent exhibits has been posted on Youtube.
