Colombians will once again be able to follow the romantic lives of Miranda, Carrie, Samantha and Charlotte as Sex and the City 2 opens in theaters around the country.
The film opened in the US in late May, and it has been poorly received by North American critics who said it “betrayed the series” (MTV), “really stank” (New York Post) and “never seemed to end.” (New York Times).
However, the jury is still out on how Colombians react to this sequel in which the four protagonists take a break from their work and relationship problems in New York and escape to the United Arab Emirates.
As usual there is an overdose of glamour and fashion to sustains the crowds interest, with Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) reportedly using more than 40 outfits during the film, including a couple of ostrich skin handbags by Colombian designer Adriana Castro.
Sex and the City opens Friday and will be shown in major Bogota theatres such as Centro Andino, Atlantis, Gran Estacion and Unicentro.
The TV series was popular amongst Colombian women who followed it on cable channels like Sony Entertainment Television.
“Sex and the city shows us a different way to see sexual relationships from a women´s perspective,” said twenty-seven year old Isabela Etcheverry, a young and glamorous professional from Cali.
“These are not like telenovela actresses, they are glamorous, intelligent, independent strong women with a career of their own and ironically that´s what makes it difficult for them to establish relationships.”
For those who are not so interested in the adventures of beautiful, independent women, there are other movies opening in Bogota this weekend, including Kevin Bacon´s latest thriller “Death Sentence,” and “Marmaduke” which stars a talking great dane that wreaks havoc in Orange County.
