Colombian actress Sofia Vergara was nominated for an Emmy award for her acting in the television series "Modern Family".
The nomination was for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, for her role as Gloria Delgado-Pritchett, the sexy younger wife of older man Jay Pritchett (Ed O'Neill).
It is the first Emmy nomination for the actress, and also the first time a Colombian has ever been nominated for an Emmy award.
Vergara will be slugging it out with Jane Lynch from "Glee", Kristen Wiig from "Saturday Night Live", Jane Krakowski from "30 Rock", Holland Taylor of "Two and a Half Men" and fellow "Modern Family" co-star Julie Bowen for the prize at the Emmy Awards ceremony August 29 in Los Angeles.
The nomination was announced live on Thursday during a ceremony where Vergara herself was among the people reading the lists of nominees.
John Shaffner, President of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, announced Vergara's nomination directly to the actress, who became visibly emotional and excited at the news.
"With this accent, my physical appearance...to be the first Colombian to get a nomination for an Emmy...I feel like I have already won," Vergara said in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter after the announcement.
